MotherEarth really have departed from the usual pub band formula, it is this different approach that has made them very popular. In only their first year MotherEarth appeared at “Stormin The Castle in 2009 (only their 3rd gig) and went on to headlined the “Yorkshire Pudding Rally (MAG Rally) Sheffield”.
You can like MothEarth on FaceBook and listen to MotherEarth’s music on MySpace
In their first year, MotherEarth appeared at “Storming The Castle” and have an even more impressive program booked for this year, watch their FaceBook page for announcements, www.facebook.com/motherearthrockband
Motherearth also have a knack for putting on a big show, an impressive sound system and a stunning lightshow really add to the charged atmosphere at any of their gigs!
The band is fronted by charismatic Guitar/Vocalist Freddie Purvis who you may have seen before as he is a prolific solo artist on the North East music Scene, Finally Fred has taken it up a notch to a full band set-up, something many audiences have expressed an interest in over the last few years.
Freddie really has a superb voice for this material and manages to cover very competently the guitar duties as well. The huge guitar tones he manages to coax from his Les Paul and Strat have to be heard to be believed. Astoundingly Fred used to be known as a Pro Drummer with the likes of “The Chris Cool Band” & “Mick Whitaker” in the 70’s & 80’s only recently changing to his second instrument (Guitar), his progress over the last ten years has been remarkable and still he gets better and better!
Next up….. Alistair Barnes, Mr keyboards extraordinaire!, This guy is simply a “Whizz Kid” great tones and feel , predominantly a piano player, a great place to start for any keyboards player as the touch dynamics are learned at an early stage and permeate every other aspect of their playing. He has an amazing array of pro-touring standard keyboards that would grace any pro name band (We call it the “Buss Shelter”), Ali is featured heavily in the “MotherEarth Sound” giving tremendous scope to the choice of material available to the band and is also a brilliant pro-sound man having recently toured with “The Longsands”, Ali has a positive can do attitude and he gets a lot of the detail right on all of the set, also handling backing vocals too he is at full stretch up there on stage. Discovering Alistair Barnes and was the key to creating the band that is now MotherEarth!
There’s always a “Clever One”, “Intellectual Type” in any good band , someone who wants it “Just Right & No Excuses!”… that’s Norm our bass player. Two degrees, a gifted artist and musician with decades of experience including touring and recording (FIST in the 80’s and 90’s). Norm makes bass playing look easy, the sign of a real pro! Never stretched he was brilliant at 18 yrs of age and he’s added 30 yrs of hard gigging experience to that!. Norm has performed on some of the biggest stages in Europe and the States and Canada. It’s a pleasure to watch a great bass player at work and Norm never makes mistakes Wow! That’s some hat to wear !!! He also turned out to be a bit of a “Dark Horse” with regard to vocals, Norm gets the real high harmonies most other mortals dread !! A great addition to MotherEarth, and a lovely guy!
Last but not least !!, Paul Reed (Drums)… WOW ! Paul has other drummers coming to see just him ! “Mr Cool”, looks amazing, and much younger, will knock you out of your seat with a huge drum sound, great feel, and is disciplined and never overplays ! He really does display maturity beyond his years and keeps the MotherEarth sound absolutely nailed tight to the floor, makes it look easy and never fails to impress at every gig !!. Paul came from a “Metal meets Dream Theatre ” type of musical background and was an unexpected find during the early auditions, obviously having the chops always helps but was surprisingly versatile with the “Shuffle’s” and feel type numbers too coping admirably for a lad of such tender years !!
That’s basically it !!… Except to add the “Fifth Beatle” aspect to the MotherEarth gig experience that is “MAGIC MARTY” on sound and lights duties. Marty and crew make sure every little thing is done to make a great show happen every time we go out , the sheer drama, effect and atmosphere created is a joy to behold !!. Marty works so hard and he loves his job!, keeping tabs out front on the sound as well as creating a stunning light show, Marty and crew are an important and vital part of the whole MotherEarth experience !!
Why not get to a show soon !! Check out the events section on our MotherEarth Facebook page, www.facebook.com/motherearthrockband
And of course keep an eye out on “ON THE CASE MUSIC”
Thanks to all MotherEarth!
